M's start of season

Posted on: April 6, 2008 12:01 pm

After the rotation past their first turn I thought it could be nice to make a recap of the season thus far. It is early in the season but there are some things that we can already see.

First of all I think our offense is going to be a liability all season long. There are moments that we become anemic and our offense disappears for five or six innings, we don't seem capable of creating a long rally and make the opposing pitcher go up in the pitch count really fast.

Our starting pitching has been what we expected, the first three (Bedard, Hernandez and Silva) were pretty good and the back two had mediocre (at best) starts. We are going to neeed more production from Batista and Washburn.

I am also worried about our bullpen but I think that once the season really gets going they will settle down, with the return of JJ Putz and possibly Brandon Morrow I believe the bullpen is going to be a major strength.

At all, even at 2-3 (really doesn't mean anything) I think that if our starters pitch to their abilities we are going to winn a lot of games, but I think that our offense really needs to step up for this not to be a long season.
